Empowering Individuals: Promoting Inclusivity and Awareness for Learning Disabilities Week 17-24 June 2024

During Learning Disability Week, awareness is raised about the experiences of individuals with learning disabilities. The theme for this year, supported by Mencap, focuses on the importance of being recognised, listened to, and appreciated, with the slogan "Do You See Me?"

My Choice Healthcare is committed to supporting the campaign to increase awareness and celebrate with our residents at Luk Ros, Victoria House, and Springfield Residential Care homes.

First of all, we want to extend our congratulations to Dean and Wayne, residents of Springfield, for completing a sponsored walk on Saturday 23 June. The walk was organised to raise funds for Valley Daffodils, a club they are both part of. This club offers programmes that help individuals enhance their skills and regain control over their lives by following a more positive pathway.

Dean and Wayne went for a relaxing stroll around Cwm Darren Park Lake, covering a distance of about 1 mile on an easy incline path. They each raised £100, a fantastic achievement for both of them. Congratulations to Dean and Wayne! We would also like to express our gratitude to all the other Residents and Staff who came to Cwm Darren Park to show their support for Dean and Wayne during their walk.

The Residents picked pine cones from the garden and gave them a makeover too! They'll look great for the Christmas Festivities! Well done to you all.

At the same time, Residents at our Home Luk Ros had fun dressing up as Cowboys and Indians, with a surprise visit from a Summer Santa. They also indulged in party snacks and were entertained by a singer.

All Residents had a great time during the entire week, participating in activities that promote creativity, self-expression, and cognitive development. They were encouraged to join based on their individual abilities, making sure they felt supported and accomplished.

Everyone had a fun-filled week!
